DOVEDALE

River Dove and Wolfscote Dale
On the left is the River Dove. The view on the right is part of Wolfscote Dale, upstream from the famous Dovedale.
The Dove has many more feeder springs than has the Manifold, and it continually gains water as it flows downstream.
I think that the best way to see the famous Dovedale (if you are fit enough) is to walk from further upstream, such as Beresford Dale. This walk is about 8 miles to Ilam, and a further 6 to 8 miles back through Stanshope or through Castern and Wetton. Returning to the Manifold near Wetton and walking via Hulme End brings the total round trip to about 20 miles.
